There are four plans with various levels of cover in the British Gas HomeCare range. If you change your mind about your HomeCare plan, this guide can show you how to cancel it or switch to a different plan.
Cancel by Telephone
1. To cancel your British Gas HomeCare plan by telephone, call 0333 202 9604. The automated service will ask you to explain why you are calling in a few words. Say “cancel HomeCare” clearly. Otherwise, if you keep waiting, you will eventually have the option to enter your customer reference number on the keypad.
2. When you get through to a person at British Gas, they will ask for your customer reference number. Tell them that you wish to cancel your HomeCare service and provide your HomeCare number. They will also ask for other details from you to confirm your identity for security purposes before discussing the account.
3. If you explain that you are cancelling because of the cost, they may offer you a discount to continue with HomeCare. Insist that you want to terminate the services if you are determined to leave. They will explain what will happen next. If you are cancelling during the 14-day cooling off period, you will get a full refund.
4. Should you cancel after the first 14 days, your refund will only cover any money you already paid for the rest of your agreement period. This means your cover will continue until the end of that month before the next Direct Debit payment is due. Whenever you cancel, if you already used the HomeCare service to get a repair then you will have to pay a cancellation fee. This usually includes the total cost of the repair work.
You can view your British Gas account online by visiting britishgas.co.uk and logging in. Hover over “My Account” in the corner and the drop-down tab will allow you to log in to your account or register for one.
Whichever button you click on, it will prompt you to enter your e-mail address. If you do already have an account, it will recognize this. If not, you will go through the registration steps to create an online account.
You will need to enter your title, name, surname, and postcode so that British Gas can locate your account details in their records. Make sure you use the same details which are already on your British Gas account.
To continue registering, you will need to enter a number. This can be your customer reference number or sales order number. For HomeCare, you should use your HomeCare number. You should be able to locate this number on any e-mails or paper letters which British Gas has sent to you concerning your HomeCare.
After this, all you need to do is create a secure password. Tick the terms and conditions agreement box and press the “Register” button to create your online account. You will then be able to log in and manage your British Gas account through the website. This includes viewing your statements and paying off your bills.
You will be able to find information about your HomeCare plan in your account. This will include advice on how to cancel or amend your HomeCare. You may need to call British Gas or write to them to confirm your intent to cancel. They will need to contact you back to confirm the conditions of your cancellation and fees.
Cancel by Post
British Gas will also accept written notification of your cancellation. You can write letters to the HomeCare department at the address at the bottom of this page. You should include your customer reference number and HomeCare number, as well as your full name, address, and e-mail address. You should also include a phone number so that British Gas can contact you to discuss the cancellation faster. The same terms and conditions about refunds and cancellation fees apply whether you cancel HomeCare by phone or by post.
