SSE is a Scottish energy supplier with customers across the UK. They also offer broadband, phone, boiler, and heating services. However, this guide will only show you how to cancel SSE gas and electric services.
Cancel by Telephone
1) To cancel SSE gas and electric, the fastest method is to speak to a person at SSE. Call SSE on 0843 816 6825 and it will prompt you to press the star key (*) twice in order to proceed. You will then have to press 1 if you credit your meter by key or card, or press 2 for all other meter types. It will provide further options.
2) If you press 1 for key or card credit meters, then your choices will be as follows: press 1 if you are moving house, press 2 to discuss paying for energy, press 3 if there is an error message on your meter, or press 4 if your enquiry is about anything else. When you have made your selection, it will transfer you to an adviser.
3) If you press 2 for all other meter types, the options will be slightly different. Press 1 if you are moving house, press 2 if you have concerns about bill payments, press 3 to discuss your bill, or press 4 for more options. The further options when you press 4 are these: press 1 to leave a meter reading, press 2 to make an automated payment, or press 3 to speak to an agent. You will eventually get through to an SSE adviser.
4) When you are speaking to an SSE agent, inform them that you wish to cancel your SSE gas and electric account. You must do this within 14 days of becoming an SSE customer if you change your mind. After the cooling-off period, you will be subject to cancellation fees if you decide to leave SSE before your contract ends. Check the early exit fee for your tariff and discuss your final bill from SSE once you arrange a new supplier to take over from them. If you are switching suppliers, the new supplier should handle it for you.
Cancelling a contract is not as simple as clicking a button, so you must contact SSE to discuss your account before you can terminate SSE gas and electric services. However, before you cancel, it is best to log in and check your account. Go to the SSE website and click on any of the account buttons to go to the login screen.

If you want to discuss cancellation in writing, then you could send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Or fill out an online contact form on the SSE website and wait for a response. If you don’t mind waiting for a longer time, then you could write a letter to SSE and send it in the post. You need to include your account details and contact details so that they can get in touch to discuss your final payments to SSE. If it is within the cooling-off period, you should try a faster method of cancellation first to make sure they receive your cancellation request before the 14 days are over, because otherwise, you must pay the tariff’s early exit fee.
